Why the increase?
Over the last 20 years the indexation rate for Medicare Schedule fees has been substantially lower than increases in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) and average weekly earnings. Medicare rebates were frozen between 1 July 2014 until July 2020.
For us, this is a regrettable rise. It comes about due to increased pressure on private practice to be able to provided a comprehensive service for our patients whilst maintaining our current staffing levels, rent, medical equipment, electricity, computers and insurance. All of these costs increase annually.
From 1 July 2022 our most common consultation fees will increase as follows:
Standard Consultation $75 (Medicare rebate $39.10)
Long Consultation $105 (Medicare rebate $75.75)
